Saab publicly listed. Gripen selected by South Africa

On May 7, the Board of Investor decided to distribute 44.8 percent of Saab AB’s share capital, equivalent to 29 percent of the voting rights, to Investor’s shareholders.

On 18 June 1998, Saab was publicly listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, at which time British Aerospace acquired 35 percent of share capital and voting rights in Saab.

Gripen

In November 1998, South Africa chose the Gripen as the preferred solution in its fighter competition. Negotiations began immediately on the supply of 28 aircraft.

Also in 1998, Saab received large orders from Aerospatiale of France to manufacture aerostructures for the Airbus A340-500/600 series.
