Successful trainee-exchange

Andrew Meehan is a trainee at Airbus UK in England. When it was time for a three-month internship abroad he chose to go to Saab Aerostructures.

Saab Aerostructures has had co-workers placed at Airbus on internships previously and it is clear to both companies that this exchange of trainees and co-workers has not only been developmental for the individuals, who have had the chance to work in another country, but that it is also a good way of increasing insight into the cultures of both companies, which makes collaboration easier.

Andrew Meehan has been at Saab Aerostructures for almost three months and
has been able to see and try most things. During the first month, he was able to see many different parts of the operation, especially the Airbus project. He has spent time in the workshops, which he considers to have been both enjoyable and informative. Lately, he has been involved in various projects and received more assignments of his own. The Editor of Saab Aerostructures Company News Brief asked Andrew three quick questions:

Andrew Meehan

Why did you choose Saab?
“The trainee program includes a three-month internship abroad. I wanted to go to a supplier and as Saab is one of the best suppliers we have, I really wanted to come here”.

What would you say are the biggest differences between Saab and Airbus?
“Usually, I work at Airbus UK where we design and manufacture the wings for all Airbus aircraft. Here, there is a greater diversity in that you have different customers and products. This means greater flexibility for employees as they have increased opportunities of changing jobs. I think it is impressive that employees can work on several projects at the same time”.

How have you found your time at Saab?
“It has been really good. The atmosphere here is relaxed and everybody seems proud of what they do. Everybody has been extremely helpful and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me during my time here”.
Andrew will remain at Saab Aerostructures until Christmas when he will return to England and finish his trainee program.
