Company News Brief 1/2007
Welcome to the first issue of Saab Aerostructures Company News Brief 2007.
The history of Saab is a history of high technology. For seven decades Saab has refined the art of building aircraft, and pioneered the world with new technologies. Although being one of few companies in the world possessing the ability to develop and integrate complete aircraft systems, the history of Saab is also a history of partnership in an international market.

Pontus Kallén, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Saab Aerostructures
In 1940 the first generation of Saab engineers could watch the Saab 17 bomber/reconnaissance aircraft take off. Today, almost 70 years later, Saab’s first aircraft is still flying, thereby being just one example of Saab’s excellent and reliable engineering. The Saab 17 was followed by a series of technologically advanced aircraft. With all the experience gained, Saab could develop Gripen. The Gripen new generation fighter is the most advanced aircraft Saab has ever built. As of today, Gripen is in service with the Swedish, Hungarian and Czech Republic Air Forces and has also been ordered by the South African Air Force. Recently, Gripen made its first appearance in India; you can read more about that in our newsletter.
It is our long history of building aircraft and our expertise within aerostructures that has made us partner with both Airbus and Boeing. We signed the contract with Boeing concerning development and manufacture of three different doors for Boeing 787 Dreamliner in 2005. Recently, we delivered the first door, a Crew Escape Door. We are of course very proud to be a part of the development and manufacture of the Dreamliner, and look forward to deliver more doors in the near future.
During the last 70 years, Saab has developed into a truly international company with operation and customers all over the world. Today, Saab has over half of its sales in markets outside Sweden. One example of international relationships is the cooperation we have with Denel. In June last year Saab and Denel signed an agreement regarding the creation of a new aerostructures company in South Africa. We are now working together with one of Denel’s work packages for the A400M, you can read more about it in this issue of the newsletter.
