Saab's widely known expertise and know-how in aerostructures is concentrated to the Saab Aerostructures business unit, who is dedicated to develop, industrialize and manufacture aerostructures for the commercial as well as the military market.

Saab Aerostructures has the capability and technology to develop all types of military and commercial airframe structures, from concept to fully certified products. The solid experience of Saab engineers combined with the knowledgebase and development infrastructure makes it easy to integrate Saab Aerostructures to work as a fully efficient extended enterprise to all customers.

By being a part of the Saab Group, Saab Aerostructures combine the advantage of being a small independent and flexible organisation, with the experience and know-how of the whole Saab Group.

Added to this, Saab Aerostructures also have the advantage of being involved in several development and manufacturing projects, like the entire structure for the JAS 39 Gripen, forward fuselage structures for the NH90 helicopter, the mid and outer leading edges of the Airbus A380 wing and cargo and access doors for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Saab Aerostructures provide structural assemblies with low weight, high static and fatigue requirements, low operating costs and high quality. The Tool Design and Manufacturing offers a complete tool solution, from design through manufacturing and implementation to maintenance, no matter if it’s a complete production line or a single tool.

Structural Testing is a vital part of the development work of aircraft design, and Saab Aerostructures can quickly setup smaller tests using the wide range of standardized test equipment or design and manufacture tailor-made test rigs in-house.

In February 2007 Denel Saab Aerostructures (Pty) Ltd was formed with 80 percent shareholding from Denel (Pty) Ltd and 20 percent from Saab AB. Denel Saab Aerostructures (Pty) Ltd is competing on international markets for design, manufacturing and assembly orders in the civil and defense aerostructures markets. The company has almost 800 employees, including contractors and has customers such as Airbus, Boeing, BAE Systems, Agusta Westland, IAI and Saab.
