Operations
Saab Aerosystems offers advanced airborne systems, related sub-systems and services during a products whole lifecycle to defense customers and aerospace industries on the world market.
Saab is actually one of few companies in the world that possesses the ability to develop and integrate complete aircraft systems. The knowledge of flight technology, command and control, and modeling and simulation has been utilized by Saab Aerosystems, and the systems engineering operations have expanded into areas like unmanned aerial vehicles, tactical systems for helicopters and advanced pilot training systems.

Gripen
Gripen is Saab’s most recent fighter and the world’s first fourth-generation fighter aircraft in active service. Gripen is the most powerful and advanced fighter aircraft ever built by Saab, as well as the most flexible and cost effective.
Saab Aerosystems has the overall system responsibility for the development of the Gripen, and the aircraft is the business unit’s most important product.
UAVs
Saab Aerosystems has both the experience and the know-how to take overall system responsibility for UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), from design through development, systems integration and production to life cycle support. Our primary focus is, however, on the design and development of flight-critical systems and the integration of UAVs with other network based defense systems.
Saab Aerosystems is currently working on several national and international UAV demonstrator programs. The company is involved in the Neuron program and contributes with knowledge of autonomous flight, airworthiness and stealth design.

Tactical Mission System
The TMS, Tactical Mission System, is an advanced multi-role tactical mission system for the Swedish NH90. Several business units within the Saab group are involved in the TMS project, and Saab Aerosystems has the overall system responsibility for design, development, integration, sensor management and data fusion, training and life cycle support of the TMS.
Pilot Training
Development and supply of training equipment has always been an essential part of Saab’s operations. Today, Saab has an extensive training, modeling and simulation business, comprising everything from target towing to advanced simulation systems and complete training systems for fighter pilots.
Flight Testing and Verification
Saabs flight test operations provide all the resources required for efficient flight testing – from skilled flight test engineers, method specialists and test pilots, to advanced technical tools such as highly modular flight-test instrumentation, software for processing and analysis of data, and facilities that include hangars, workshops, laboratories and test ranges in vast uninhabited areas.
Training and Support Systems
Pilots who are able to train, plan and practice specific missions with realistic systems integrated in a realistic environment are better prepared for mission success. That is why all Saab’s training and tactical support systems are designed to provide experience in advance.
The use of modeling and simulation support is an integrated and natural part of the aircraft development process. Saab consequently acquires broad and qualified expertise in defining, developing and operating simulators for all phases of system life cycles.
Network Enabled Capabilities
Network based solutions are simply information technology acting in a network environment. Development of such systems is being strongly pursued by many countries. Saab has extensive expertise in integrating commercial components into systems solutions, resulting in a capability to support customers in the development of network based security and defense solutions.
Research and Development
Saab’s annual investment in research and development is approximately 20 percent of the annual sales revenue. Research and development currently focus on future airborne systems like UAVs, tactical systems and systems providing network enabled capabilities.
After Sales
Saab Aerosystem's after sales business focuses on two main areas:
- Provision of Chain Management solutions for Gripen
- Provision of Chain Management solutions for UAVs and other airborne och aircraft-related systems
