Net Centric Air Transportation

The Net Centric Air Transportation (NCAT) concept takes a grip over all of your airport’s activities, from ATC and on-ground support systems to check-in, security and connecting tranportations.

Main issues adressed by the NCAT are increased efficiency, security and capacity combined with reduced costs and environmental load. It's all about controlling the flows in order to achieve increased effiency. The NCAT is built using next generation intelligent information and decision models based on the Service Oriented Architecture, SOA. This provides the flexibility needed to gradually upgrade your systems, keeping existing equipment as long as it’s functional. The NCAT supports all vital applications/services e. g. Collaborative Decision Making (CDM), Total Airport Management (TAM) and System Wide Information Management (SWIM).

NCAT features service oriented design

The network centric system basic design is service oriented. The operators are defined according to their specific roles as defined by customer operational policy. An operator is able to perform his duty from any node within the network, bounded only by the available capability of the node. This makes the collaboration and information exchange between ANS, Airport Security, Airport Handlers, Aircraft Operators and Ground Handling increases.

Environmental benefits

By enable to control the flow of data in a more efficient and predictable way, new environmental friendly operations can be introduced. To share information between domains and go to a more proactive operation will be a corner stone in order to fulfil the environmental demands put on the air transportation sector.

An example of this is the “Green Approach” initiative done at Arlanda Airport in Sweden, by sharing aircraft data with ATC flow data, the arriving flights can be sequenced earlier then today’s operation and introduce idle decent approaches. This gives less environmental impact and fuel savings for the airlines, a win-win situation for all involved.
