One clear trend is the need to increase interoperability between military and civil command and control systems – between the systems that control ships and aircraft and the solutions used by the army, police, customs and fire service, for example.

A further challenge is to develop interoperability between different countries, at a time when more and more nations are taking part in joint international operations.
