The powerful and light BT 46 laser was introduced, Saab Training Systems also managed to secure a number of deals during these years.
1990
A new generation of simulators, BT 46, had been developed. The BT 46 used 32 bit processors and was much more powerful than the BT 41. It was also much smaller and lighter. The BT 46 weighed around 5 kg compared to over 40 kg for the BT 41 and used much less power, 5w compared to around 100w for the BT 41. The BT 41 system could only be mounted on vehicles whereas the BT 46 is also used to simulate infantry carried antitank weapon systems opening up a whole new range of applications.
1992
1992 was a massive year for Saab Training Systems. The new BT 46 laser simulator system was selected for the US TWGSS/PGS program for application on the M1A1 tanks and Bradley fighting vehicle and the British DFWES program for all types of vehicle ranging from recovery units to main battle tanks.
1994
The BT 24, Graphic Range Controller, a new development of the radio control system for targets was also introduced in 1994.At the end of 1994, the contract for the BT 46 laser simulator system was awarded to Saab Training Systems for the MARDER vehicle within the German AGDUS- program.
1995
The development of the BT 61 visual simulator started at the beginning of the 90s as a third product line. In order to avoid competing head-to-head with the established giants in this product range, Saab Training Systems developed a small system that could be used outdoors, indoors and be installed on weapons such as anti-air guns. In the mid 90's the BT 61 simulator system was sold to the Finnish and Swedish armies.","Another new development - the BT 61 visual simulator.
