In 2002 Saab TransponderTech became the first company in the world that achived type approval for a shipborne AIS equipment. That achivement was a result of more then 10 years of research, development and standardisation in the AIS field. AIS has since then become a world wide success for the maritime community and have enhanced safety at sea and also become a valuable tool for VTS (Vessel Traffic Services) and SAR (Search and Rescue) activities. Today we market the fourth generation of transponder and navigation products including shipborne equipment (R4 AIS, R4 DGPS and GPS), Airborne AIS products (R4A) and Base Stations (R40 AIS).
The world wide success with AIS has stimulated us to develop Saab CoastWatch VTS which is an integrated, scalable, maritime Vessel Traffic System fulfilling all IALA Guidelines and Recommendations. Saab CoastWatch VTS is scalable from harbour sized systems with a limited number of sensor subsystems and operators (then called PortWatch) to country sized systems with hundreds of sensor subsystems and numerous operators in different locations working together.
Saab CoastWatch VTS is a product family and a turn key solution with cooperation from several companies in the Saab Group with Saab TransponderTech as lead system integrator.
Saab CoastWatch VTS can be upgraded with functions for Maritime Security like secure transmissions, over the horizon radars, underwater sensors and land based perimeter security.
