With our sights on the future

With tender requests from India, Denmark, Switzerland and Norway, and with Thailand’s order for six aircraft in early 2008, Gripen has reaffirmed its strong position in the global market. Gripen is still the world’s most modern fighter aircraft in operational service, and is currently used in Sweden and NATO members the Czech Republic and Hungary.

In 2007, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) ordered an upgrade of 31 Swedish Gripen aircraft to the latest standard. The contract also includes a demonstrator program for Gripen’s future development. The program comprises a new, stronger engine, new radar and the capability of carrying more payload and fuel. The order for the demonstrator program is a clear show of strength that will keep the Gripen system competitive for years to come.
