The Symbol
In 1984 the company symbol was created by Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd as the visually collective brand for the then Saab-Scania Group.
Since 1901 when Scania-Vabis was formed, it has had a griffin head in some form in its various symbols. This tradition was kept when the symbol for the Saab-Scania Group was created. The griffin head in Saab's symbol is, thus, a heritage from the time period when Scania was part of the Saab Group (former Saab-Scania Group). In 1995 the Saab-Scania group was divided into two companies, Saab and Scania. In 2000 the symbol was modified, and today the one used by the Saab Group is shown below.
Modification of the symbol - with 'SAAB' in gold and introduction of the conceptual word 'Technologies' - was carried out in consultation with the artist.
The symbol is an expression of Saab's experience in advanced technology - the floating band symbolizes our high-technology operations, our system integration capability and our wide spectrum of expertise, elements that operate separately or act together as a unit. The griffin head symbolizes acuteness of perception and long tradition.
The symbol strengthens Saab's identity and denotes the origin of our technically advanced products and operations.
