Climate influence
All Saab business units work actively to reduce and monitor their contribution to the greenhouse effect. This often involves reducing the use of heating and electrical energy, or changing passenger transports.
During 2007 an internal directive has been established to improve the climate work within the company, including requirements for product development, electricity and heat consumption, business travels, goods transports and company cars.
The new agreement for company cars states that cars offered to employees must fulfill the insurance company Folksam’s requirements for safety and environment.
Saab’s contribution to the greenhouse effect was 55,162 tonnes during 2007. Due to changes in the calculation methods the results from 2007 cannot be directly compared to the results of 2006.
Saab participates in reports
Since 1998, Saab has participated in the Environmental Index compiled by Swedish insurance company Folksam. From 2006 Saab is participating in the international Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
The diagram displays the distribution of carbon dioxide emissions from the Saab Group during 2007.
Energy consumption
Saab works actively to consume energy more efficiently. The increase in electricity consumption in 2006 is due to the acquisition of Saab Microwave Systems, and the inclusion of the operations in South Africa. The increase of electricity consumption in 2007 is an effect of changes in the compilation process.
Saab’s participation in Clean Sky
Saab is participating in the extensive European research and development program Clean Sky, which has a very strong focus on reducing the aviation sector’s effect on the climate.
