Information is a powerful asset in any mission. Skeldar, a medium-range UAV system, can hover for hours while providing real-time information to a control station or to a remote video terminal.

It is fully autonomous, commanded by high-level-commands such as “Point and Fly” and “Point and Look”, and designed for a range of land, maritime and civil applications.-

THE COMMANDER'S DOMINANT EYE

The Skeldar® UAS aims to be the ground manoeuvre commander’s primary day/night, reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition (RSTA) system.

It provides your commanders with a number of benefits, such as enhanced situational awareness, a target acquisition capability, battle damage assessment (BDA), and enhanced battle management. Skeldar is the commander’s “dominant eye”.

VERSATILE MISSIONS

In the design of Skeldar® UAS, the real-time needs of the lower level tactical units have been taken into consideration, i.e. integration of mission payload, offering real-time responsive RSTA, BDA, Electronic Warfare (EW) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) detection capability.

IN PACE WITH THE MISSION

Being rapidly tasked and dynamically re-tasked in-flight ensures responsiveness to immediate needs, as well as changes in information and intelligence requirements.

Rapid set-up and tear down, as well as handover between UCS and remote payload terminals, ensures that it can keep pace with supported troop movements and provide information on the move. Skeldar® UAS will be one of your key collection assets in supporting near real-time visualization of the battle space.

AGILITY IN FLIGHT

The agile flight envelope of Skeldar air vehicles provides key characteristics for successful operations and missions, especially in urban areas and difficult terrain.

Launch and recovery from easily accessible and small areas, keeping pace on the battlefield, as well as find, hold and maintain optimal aspect to area and point of interest, are all easily performed thanks to the rotary wing design.

NETWORK ENABLED CAPABILITIES

Integration of the UCS into C4I, Combat Management System (CMS) and Multi-Source Intelligence Cell (MSIC) enables faster and more accurate tasking of the Skeldar system, and also increases the situational awareness of the UAV operators to a level where individual initiatives can be taken in line with the commander’s intentions.

VERSATILE INTEGRATION

Your land units in any level of the echelon can achieve decisive ISTAR capability with integration of the UAV system and UCS into virtually any compartment of your choice.

The UAV Control Station (UCS) is integrated into a suitable ground vehicle, e.g. APC, ATV, truck, shelter, or another vehicle of the customer’s choice. 
The air vehicles and maintenance equipment are transported in the same or additional vehicles, in a trailer or container.

 

VERSATILE DEPLOYMENT

Solutions for Ground Data Terminal (GDT) and communication link antenna(s) include vehicle integration, lift, or stationary mast or tripod depending on the desired operational range and limitations of the terrain and vegetation. The UCS can be deployed several hundred metres from the GDT to increase operational range while maintaining or improving concealment and protection.

A coarse narrow area of approximately 15 by 15 metres is used as the Air Vehicle’s takeoff and landing site.

TACTICAL AND STATEGIC MOBILITY

Skeldar® UAS has a modular design, making it possible to integrate the system with the customer’s preferred choice of ATV, APC or other vehicles.

For long range and overseas transportation, ISO 20 ft containers are used to transport the Skeldar system.

The tail of the Air Vehicle is easily attachable and detachable for minimising the required transportation volume. Furthermore, the main rotor blades are easily removed and attached.   

LOW DEMANDS ON PERSONNEL

The Skeldar® UAS is a highly capable system and the system can be operated by just 2-4 people, owing to the ease of use, no takeoff and landing equipment, and the low logistical footprint.

The Skeldar system consists of two air vehicles and a mobile UAS Control Station. Based on operational and technical requirements, the system may be integrated into a wide variety of segments and system environments utilising a common control concept and user interface in the context of command, control and payload management.

The Skeldar system is designed so that it can easily be certified for all airspace classifications.

AVAILABILITY

Launch and recovery requires only a minimum of personnel and preparation. Combining a modular design, short turnaround time, built in test functionality and a multiple choice of payloads increases Skeldar’s high availability.

EASY TO OPERATE

Autonomy and precise manoeuvrability during takeoff & landing necessitates high safety. Skeldar can hover in the air for hours, providing real-time information to your control station and remote video terminals.

COST EFFECTIVENESS WITH LOW LIFE CYCLE COSTS

Skeldar is designed with the aim of substantially reducing the logistical footprint. To simplify maintenance operations and reduce costs, for example,  the equipment compartments are easily accessible via panels that can be quickly opened and closed.

PROPOLUSION SYSTEM

Heavy fuel, 2-cylinder, in-line, 625 cc, 2-stroke, liquid cooled internal combustion engine. This runs at a constant 6.100 RPM, has an electronic fuel injection/ignition system and is rated at approx 55 hp.

MISSION PAYLOAD SUITE

The air vehicle is available with a number of different advanced COTS payloads for information collection and dissemination and has a dual payload capability. The architecture is open for quick integration of future payloads.
