50 years since the debut in Paris
The Paris Air Show starts today and, naturally, Saab is there. This year is the 50th anniversary of Saab’s first appearance at the Paris show.
6/18/2007 | The international air shows are nearly as old as flight itself. The first air show at Le Bourget in Paris was arranged as early as 1909 and the show, which is held every other year, is still the largest of its type. During the last 50 years Saab has participated in the shows, shown off our expertise in the area of flight and taken the opportunity to present many new ideas.
At the first show in 1957 Saab displayed two real technical breakthroughs, in the shape of an ejection seat and a model of the Draken aircraft, with the then revolutionary delta wing. This year, 50 years later, a number of Saab products will be on display, including a full scale model of a Gripen.
In addition Saab celebrates its own 70 anniversary this year, something that will be celebrated by, among other things, a large customer day on August 31st. After so many years at the leading edge of technological development and with so many new exciting projects, it is a remarkably vital 70 year old that celebrates its jubilee – as a company and in Paris.
