Saab and Indian TCS in collaboration

Saab and Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) have signed a Letter of Intent to create an aviation technology design and development centre in India.

9/10/2008 | Together, Saab and TCS intend to establish a common development centre that both parties can benefit from. The collaboration is the start of a long relationship and increases Saab’s and TCS’ opportunities to do business within the aviation and defence sectors.

The Aeronautical Design and Development Centre, ADDC, will be aimed at the global aviation market. The centre will create design and development opportunities in India for both civil and military applications. Saab will transfer technology and expertise within aviation technology. The markets for aero structures, aero systems, avionics and aftermarket support are of special interest to the work in the centre.

Common capacity is built up

“This co-operation is not limited to any specific product but is aimed towards building a joint capability to leverage collective strengths across the globe,” says Saab CEO Åke Svensson.

“This partnership has a strong blend of Saab’s technology solutions and TCS global engineering model to address the growing opportunities in the aerospace and defence sector,” says Mr. S Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, TCS.

Within Saab, Combitech will be responsible for establishing the Aeronautical Design and Development Centre. Combitech have previous experience of collaboration with Indian consulting firms and can provide competences regarding purchasing, coordination, follow-up and steering. Discussions and preparations for the first project have already started.

India is an important key market

India is a key market for Saab, as one of the world’s fastest growing defence markets. The Indian aviation market is enormous and continues to grow strongly. Saab believes in local participation and works with long-term collaboration with, and technology transfer to, local industries.

The business opportunities in India span the entire Saab product range, in addition to aviation and aviation technology it also includes electronic warfare, command and control, civil security etc.

At present, India is in the process of procuring a new Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft and Saab has submitted a tender for Gripen.
