Saab supplies Command and Control System to South African Defence Force
Saab is contracted by the South African Defence Material Administration Armscor to supply an Operational Urgent Command and Control System for the South African Defence Force.
8/8/2008 | The Command and Control system Chaka enables the commander and staffs at Brigade Headquarters to enjoy situational awareness, plan operations and electronically send the resulting operational orders to subordinate commanders and control the execution of the plans.
Improves operational effectiveness
“This represents a major step in the utilization of modern Information Technology to improve the operational effectiveness of the South African Defence Force, Army and Chief Joint Operations. Planning time will be reduced drastically and orders can now be sent instantaneously in near real-time”, says Willie Bothma, Managing Director of Saab Systems South Africa.
Unique systems’ development
The system to be provided is a fully South African system developed over years by South Africans in close cooperation with the military personnel of the Brigades. It expands on the systems supplied to the Ground Based Air Defence Formation. Saab also developed and built the heart of the South African Air Force Command and Control System - Air Picture Display System (APDS). With this new contract Saab adds the landward command and control domain to the existing air command and control domain in one business entity.
