The ranges are part of the Digital Range Training System (DRTS) programme, which provides live fire gunnery training facilities for soldiers in a train-as-you-fight environment using realistic, virtual and constructive simulation. It also has the capability for post-action evaluation with position data, video imagery and digital vehicle information.
Close co-operation
The lead integrator for the ranges is General Dynamics Information Technology who ordered the moving and stationary targets and simulators. Installation will take place over the next two years.
"The contract is an acknowledgment of a long and close cooperation that began with an installation at Fort Wainright, Alaska, in 2003," says Anders Jonzon, Communications Director at Saab Training Systems. "We are also working with General Dynamics Information Technology regarding a facility in Waynsville, Tennessee. There we have delivered training equipment for Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT), among other things."
Saab has been supplying targets and range controllers to the U.S. Army and Marine Corps since 1980. This order increases Saab’s product base within training systems in the U.S.
